Our typical candidate is a lawyer trained in the civil law, and practicing in an environment which requires knowledge of the Anglo-American legal system and its application in transnational practice.
We seek students from a wide variety of countries and professional backgrounds, so that each contributes his or her unique perspective to enrich the learning experience in both on-campus and on-line coursework.
Our experience suggests that lawyers with at least three years of professional experience will benefit the most from this program, keeping in mind that each candidate's experience will be evaluated in function of the nature of his or her duties and the system of legal education and practical training in the applicant's country.
The 2007-2008 Class
In this second year of the Executive LLM Program, the 2007-2008 class represents a substantial increase in the number of countries represented, both in terms of countries of origin and countries where expatriate students are based. In alphabetical order, these are: Colombia, France, Italy, Mexico, Panama, Portugal, Russia, Spain, Switzerland, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom and United States.
The average age of students in this year’s class is 33½ years, with an average of 8½ years of professional experience.
Two students have backgrounds in business and engineering instead of first degrees in law.
The remaining students are about evenly divided between lawyers in practice (ranging from major firms to small and medium-sized law offices) and in-house counsel from sectors as diverse as technology, mining, banking and financial.
